UDHAMPUR, Oct 8: A woman and her four-year-old son were washed away in the Tawi river after they fell into the flowing water while crossing a rope bridge near Latti town of Udhampur today.
However, villagers saved eight-year old daughter of the woman, her husband and brother, who had also also fallen into the river along with her.
The deceased have been identified as Santosh Kumari, an Anganwari worker and resident of village Pachond near Latti and her son Ankush.
The mishap took place when the family was on way to home. While crossing the rope bridge on Tawi river, Santosh Kumari along with her minor son Ankush and daughter Nidhi accidentally fell into the flowing water. In a bid to save them, her husband Bittu Ram (32) who is a teacher in Government High School Jakhed and brother Kuldeep Kumar (17), son of Hans Raj, jumped into the river.
Some local people, who saw the family drowning, came forward for the rescue and saved three among the five while the woman and her minor son were washed away in the river. Bodies of the deceased were not recovered even as Police and locals had launch vigorous search for locating them.
