DODA, Feb 8: A 58-year-old woman was killed and her son injured after their house collapsed due to landslide in Bhaderwah.
According to the reports, a landslide hit a residential house in a hilly village of tehsil Bhalla in Bhaderwah on Wednesday night. In the mishap, a 58-year-old woman residing in the house lost her life while her 39-year-old son got seriously injured.
The landslide occurred at about 9.30 PM, trapping sleeping family members in the house, which was badly damaged under the impact of the landslide. After listening to the screams of the victims, villagers rushed to the spot and also informed the police.
“Police and locals immediately started the rescue operation but could only retrieve the body of the lady identified as Premkore (58) wife of Lehar Singh, resident of village Guraka from the debris of the completely damaged house. However her son, Jarnail Singh (39) was rescued. He had sustained many injuries,” said Incharge police post Bhalla, Sub Inspector, Sunil Parihar.
“The injured man was immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah, where after first aid, he was shifted to District Hospital Doda for further treatment,” Parihar added, saying that six sheeps also got buried in the massive landslide and their bodies were recovered.
As the last reports came in, there was no possibility of any other being trapped in the debris but the rescue operation was still going on in the village.
