SRINAGAR, June 9: Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Subhash Bhamre today asked different security agencies to deal firmly with the elements inimical to national interests.
Dr Bhamre, who arrived here yesterday on two day visit, reviewed the overall security situation in the Valley.
The MoS Defence was briefed by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu on the prevailing situation in the Valley. He was also briefed on the close coordination amongst all the Government agencies towards bringing back normalcy in the region.
The Minister along with Lt Gen Sandhu visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and also the hinterland, where he interacted with the soldiers and was briefed on the prevailing security situation.
Dr Bhamre appreciated the various measures instituted to strengthen the security posture and the good job being done by all the security forces.
The MoS Defence urged all to continue the strict vigil and deal firmly with all elements inimical to national interests.
Earlier in the morning, Dr Bhamre joined Army here in paying tributes to a soldier who was killed in Nowgam sector of Handwara in Kupwara district.
Rifleman Tara Bahadur Roka was killed yesterday at Nowgam sector during a counter-infiltration operation in which three armed intruders were eliminated. A Defence spokesman said Chinar Corps Commander Lt General JS Sandhu and all ranks paid homage to the martyr in a solemn ceremony which was also attended by officials from the other security agencies including Director General of Police (DGP) Dr SP Vaid.
Laying wreath on behalf of the nation, the Minister saluted the soldier’s sacrifice and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the martyr who is survived by his parents. “Born on January 1, 1994, the young brave heart from Dang, Nepal with barely two years of service was a very motivated soldier had impressed one and all with his vigour, courage and devotion to duty,” he said.
The spokesman said that the mortal remains of the soldier will be taken to Subathu in Himachal Pradesh for last rites with full military honours.
