Mortal remains of porter recovered after 10-month gap in Drass

JAMMU: The Army today recovered the mortal remains of one of the porters, Dil Bahadur Roka from a forward area of Drass Sector after a gap of almost ten months.

”On October 21, 2015, an unfortunate incident was witnessed in which the porter who was working at a forward post in Drass Sector fell down from the post into a crevasse infested glaciated bowl,” Col S D Goswami, defence spokesperson here said.

He said that despite a comprehensive rescue operation under  the aegis of Siachen Battle School which continued for about 10 days, the porter could not be recovered, adding, ”the search finally had to be called off as it had become untenable due to increasing snow levels at the site of the incident”.

In the month of August this year with the snow having melted, the search operation was re-launched after a gap of about 10 months. (AGENCIES)
