JAMMU, Apr 11: Mooltan Battalion of JAT Regiment celebrates Rajouri Day today, paying homage to their forefathers who laid their lives in keeping the highest traditions of Indian Army. The battalion was put into the battle to thwart the evil designs of Pakistan.
In 1948 Pakistani Army and raiders were threatening town of Rajouri. In order to ensure safety of Rajouri and Naoshera, Mooltan Battalion was tasked to capture Rohtak Tekri, incidentally named by the Jat as their company commander belonged to Rohtak in Haryana.
Leading the attack one of the soldiers, Naik Sis Pal, crawled 25 meters to the bunker and killed all enemy soldiers in close combat. For his gallant actions he was decorated with Maha Vir Chakra (Posthum-ously). In the glorious battle Maj IS Kalaan, Jemadar Thambu Ram, Havildar Yad Ram and Sep Ran Singh were decorated with Vir Chakra. The first Indo-Pak war witnessed 6000 plus casualties of the enemy. The battalion serving in same areas today was rightfully bestowed with Battle Honour Rajouri.
