Sir,
Refer article ‘Parliament plagued by obstructionism’ DE Aug 10. It is quite dismaying that the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament was obstructed by protest against the creation of Telangana on one hand, and demands for some States such as Bodo land on the other. Given the situation as is existing in the country one is not sure whether this session of parliament wil transact any business.
Then there is the problem of absenteeism. For the last so many sessions it has been observed that most of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members remain absent. They neither take part in discussions nor bring issues before this august house.
In the past, Speaker Meira Kumar expressed her dismay at the attitude of the MPs attending the session. At a time when the country is passing through a difficult situation and militants across the LoC are threatening to strike various cities including the capital, these representatives should be present in the house and deliberate upon the issues confronting the nation. If MPs are least bothered about the proceedings of the house, what is the need for Parliament. Besides it is time the no-work no-pay principle was enforced for our MPs.
Yours etc…..
