Sir,
It is not only the dog menace that is creating problems for the people living in the Jammu city but also the monkey menace. These simians are ubiquitous everywhere—on the city roads, houses, markets and particularly in Bagh-e-Bahu garden. Their presence in this beautiful garden is quite scary. Since this is the most visited place in Jammu city, it needs to be safe for all –in particular for children who indulge in recreational activities there . At times monkeys chase them, snatch their food articles and pounce upon the visitors.
The monkey menace is attributed to a number of reasons which include rapid deforestation in the surrounding areas for commercial complexes and construction of roads for accommodating large number of vehicles in the city. As they find their habitat destroyed and do not have sources of food there, they descend down to plains .Besides, blame must go to people who visit there and leave left over food without proper disposal. Though dust-bins are there but people do not make good use of them. This lets monkeys prowl here and there for food and in turn they scare people away .
To tackle monkey menace in the area, it is suggested that the people responsible for maintaining the park do not let people litter the area with food and other items. Moreover, the forest officials should ensure that there is no encroachment to their habitat . They should have a secure environment where they could feel safe and have sources of food intact.
Yours etc…..
