There are several projects underway in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) but the pace of work on 54 of them is far from satisfactory. It is encouraging that a review session of such projects took place recently under the aegis of Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Home Affairs whereby besides suggesting various measures, it was reiterated that on the ground of providing funds , these projects would face no problem and Central Government would make it doubly sure that there was free flow of funds in order to see that these projects were completed in time.
What needed besides funds, was increasing monitoring at local levels and assessing and keep reporting the developments and suggesting remedial measures wherever any project so needed. These projects, include the ones like IIM Jammu, IIT Jammu, 12 Tourism Development Authorities, construction of Jammu and Srinagar Semi Ring Roads, AIIMS Jammu, improving horticulture, broadening of various roads etc. The efforts of the Central Government could bear fruits only if at project building levels, concerned authorities paid the required attention so that the projects were completed well within the timelines. So, regular monitoring and complete liaison with the Central Government were cardinal to the success of these projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Package.
