Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh coordinated the programme from New Delhi while Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Development of North Eastern Region BL Verma gave job letters at Leh in the UT of Ladakh.
Addressing Rozgar Mela virtually, the Prime Minister said his Government’s policies and decisions have taken the economy to a new height, creating immense possibility for employment and self-employment generations.
He asked the youth to ensure that welfare initiatives reach the most deprived people wherever they are and said this will lead to the realisation of goal of making India a developed country by 2047.
Modi said that their biggest priority should be people’s ease of living, and took a swipe at past Governments saying they ignored the equality envisaged by B R Ambedkar, the key figure behind the Constitution, among all citizens.
A big section of society was denied even basic facilities till 2014 when his Government came to power, he said.
The Prime Minister said his Government prioritised the marginalised and adopted their development as a mantra, asserting that it reached out to those who for decades had not got any facility from any government.
“We have been trying to change their lives,” he said.
The same bureaucracy and system are in place but the mindset and work culture has changed, changing the lives of people, he said.
Citing a report, Modi said over 13 crore people moved out of poverty in the last five years.
In his introductory remarks, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said that in today’s Rozgar Mela, over 30% of appointment letters went to women candidates.
“Prime Minister has encouraged women’s participation whether in the Space sector, Chandrayaan or Reservation in Parliament and we see a glimpse of this trend in today’s Rozgar Mela,” he said.
Another special feature of the Rozgar Mela today, said Dr Jitendra Singh, was that a high number of appointments had been made in the education sector.
He said, in a historic step, the Modi Government adopted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
“Under the NEP, students have the provision to opt for subjects of their choice depending on their aptitude, talent and inherent skills,” he said.
Stating that the NEP 2020 aims to improve the pupil-teacher ratio, Dr Jitendra Singh, said, a majority of the more than 51,000 recruitments made today are in the Education sector.
The Union Minister said, prior to 2014, the state of affairs was so bad that schools had to suspend academic sessions in certain streams due to lack of teaching staff.
“In Navodaya Vidyalayas, in the 10 years between 2004 to 2014, 4,339 people were recruited while in the nine years between 2014 to 2023, we doubled that and 9,724 candidates were recruited,” he said.
The Union Minister said Navodaya Vidyalayas cater to the most talented rural youth from the economically disadvantaged sections and vulnerable sections. These are the schools that have thousands of successful candidates in IIT and NEET examinations, he said.
“37.5% of Navodaya Vidyalayas students are from OBC, 24.3% from SC and 20.48% from ST populations,” he said.
The DoPT Minister said, in the Kendriya Vidyalayas, from 2004-14, 20,610 teaching and non-teaching staff were hired, while in the last less than 10 years from 2014 to 2023, almost 34,000 staff have been hired.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the huge backlog of vacancies, especially in Reserved categories have also been filled up under the leadership of PM Modi.
“7,987 vacancies belonging to SC / ST / OBC and Divyang have been filled up, in a time bound, entirely transparent and online procedure” he said.
Meanwhile, Union MoS for Cooperation and Development of North Eastern Region BL Verma distributed 351 appointment letters among the youth during Rozgar Mela in Leh district of Ladakh.
Addressing, he stated that empowering the youth sets the base for a developed nation and this is being ensured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Verma urged the new appointees to commit their dedication towards a Viksit Bharat.
BJP MP from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgayal highlighted job opportunities created by various departments of the administration since Ladakh became a Union Territory.
“This day is indeed historic for Ladakh,’’ he said.
Advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal spoke of the recruitment process initiated in Ladakh after it became the UT.
Congratulating new appointees, Kotwal stated that the Administration is awaiting their services.
