JAMMU, Mar 27: Three-day Classic Play Festival concluded today here at Abhinav Theatre with presentation of “Andha Yug”, a modern Indian classic.
“Andha Yug” is about the conflict and self-doubt which victor Pandavas and the vanquished Kauravas, who felt on the evening of the 18th day of Mahabharata war the relevance of war and its devastating powers. And also the realization, that the consequences of the war have traveled beyond their control when Ashwatthama refused to listen to any logic and released the Brahmastra, which would destroy all – irrespective of which side they stood for; the right or the wrong.
Directed by Ravinder Sharma, today’s production designed as a structure combining elements drawn from Greek and Sanskrit drama traditions along with contemporary treatment, like that of the Chorus, use of masks, supported by highly stylized lighting, background score-was able to convey the ever lurking baser human emotions, insatiable lust for self- annihilation, or silence, which in itself is a tacit support.
The cast included Ravinder Sharma as Dhritrashtra, Rashmi Jasrotia as Gandhari, Aditya Pandita as Sanjaya, Sandeep Manh as Kripacharya, Manjeet Singh as Kritavarma, Vishal Singh as Ashwatthama, Sandeep Thakur as Yuyutsu, Samdhish Kumar as Old Mendicant, Abhishake Sharma as Guard 1, Ajay Tamang as Guard 2, Devanshu Raina as Vidura and Chetan Charak, Hempreet Kour, Neha Langeh, Prashant Razdan, Rohan Sharma, Shubam Singh Nag, Sugandha Khera and Aashima Dutta as chorus.
