LEH, July 10: For the first time Government has taken the initiative to integrate college and higher secondary schools by adoption of a school as model school so that subject wise orientation is initiated from 8th standard onwards, said the Minister of State for Information, Education & Culture Priya Sethi today during her maiden visit to Leh.
Vocational courses will also be part of this programme and MLAs and MLCs requested to adopt one school where funding of different components are also needed to help grow the educational institutions for the benefit of the students, added Pryia Sethi.
Addressing to a large gathering of faculty and students of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, Priya appealed for keeping educational institutions separate from political affiliation, and that the prime focus should be to help recognize the skills and talents of the child and help him hone those skill and talents.
On the first day of her three-days visit to Leh, the MoS also visited Government Boys Higher Secondary School Leh and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Leh where she visited some of the classes and openly interacted with the students and the faculty and patiently listened to their grievances and issues. She gave directions to concerned officers to look into the matters of transfer and shortage of teaching staff and further assured of early redressal of all the demands and issues.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh RK Badyal; Principal DIET Leh Konchok Angmo; District Education Planning Officer Leh Kunzes Dolma; Special Officer for Culture J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages Leh Tsewang Paljor and other concerned officials accompanied the MoS. Later, MoS also visited the Tourist Information Centre Leh and Shanti Stupa.
