SAMBA, Sept 30: The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Samba, Dr Kartar Chand was today injured after the irate mob protesting against the death of a female Dengue patient in the hospital ransacked the hospital and manhandled the employees.
According to reports, the CMO was shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment. The Samba police has registered a case. The police has also registered a case against the hospital staff and doctors for negligent death on the basis of a complaint filed by family members and relatives of the girl. But no arrest has been made so far.
Reports said that one girl identified as Pooja Sambyal of Tharora Mandi Samba who was admitted in District Hospital Samba for treatment of Dengue breathed her last yesterday evening.
The people of the area as well as her family members and relatives after performing her cremation today took out a procession straight from cremation ground to DH Samba and protested there. The irate mob ransacked the hospital and manhandled CMO and some employees. The protestors also shouting slogans against the hospital administration held it responsible for the death of the girl who was to be married after three days.
The protestors demanded that the CMO be suspended and action be taken against the other doctors responsible for the death of the girl.
Taking serious view of the mob attack on the hospital, the doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital went on strike demanding action against those responsible for attack on them. They warned to continue strike till the people responsible for attack are arrested. However the emergency services have been kept above the purview of the strike.
Meanwhile, the J&K Medical Employees Federation has given 72 hour ultimatum to the Government for arresting the culprits responsible for today’s attack. The Federation president, Sushil Sudan, while condemning the attack on CMO and hospital staff at Samba and ransacking of hospital said that in case the Government failed to act by 72 hours the medical employees will go on indefinite strike and the authorities will be responsible for all consequences.
Reports said two more cases of Dengue have been detected in the Samba district and the patients have been admitted in Government Hospital, Bari Brahmana.
Reports said two children Ashtosh Tiwari, son of Virender Tiwari of Ward No 6, Bari Brahmana and Abhi son of Rajinder Singh also of Ward No 6 Bari Brahmana have been admitted in Government Hospital Bari Brahmana for treatment of Dengue. The condition of the duo is bad as they have lost water and will likely be shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment.
