MLA Mohan Lal holds public grievances camp at Akhnoor

JAMMU, May 11: MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat today organized a public grievances redressal camp at Forest Rest House, Akhnoor, where a large number of people from different panchayats, municipal wards and border belts projected their issues before the MLA and district officers.
During the camp, Mohan Lal Bhagat heard the grievances patiently and directed the concerned departments to resolve several issues on priority.
Among those present were SDM Khour Satish Sharma, SDM Akhnoor Mukhtar Ahmad, Tehsildar Akhnoor Naresh Kumar, SDPO Akhnoor Varinder Gupta, XEN Flood Control Rajesh Gupta, XEN PWD Sanjeev Sharma, besides officers of Irrigation Department, Agriculture Department, Rural Development Department and other departments.
Taking serious note of frequent unscheduled power cuts in Akhnoor town and adjoining areas, the MLA directed the Power Development Department to minimize unscheduled outages, particularly in areas where smart meters have already been installed. He also set a 15-day deadline for resolving faulty and inflated electricity bills.
Reviewing the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission schemes, the MLA sought detailed updates on pending projects and expressed concern over the slow pace of AMRUT works in Akhnoor and Jourian towns. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure regular drinking water supply, proper utilization of reserve pumps and transparent distribution of water tankers wherever required.
The issue of bovine smuggling also figured prominently during the camp and the MLA directed SDPO Akhnoor Varinder Gupta to intensify night patrolling and surveillance, especially between midnight and 5 am, to check illegal activities.
Residents from Pargwal area, including Surjeet Singh, highlighted irrigation problems, stating that water was not reaching tail-end agricultural fields. The MLA directed the Irrigation Department and concerned authorities to take immediate corrective measures.
People residing along the banks of river Chenab demanded early completion of flood protection works on vulnerable stretches, following which Mohan Lal Bhagat instructed Flood Control authorities to expedite the ongoing works while maintaining quality standards.
