JAMMU, Sept 18: MLA Reasi, Baldev Raj Sharma today demanded compensation at the rate of Rs 3.50 lakh to the family members of 27 flood victims in Saddal area of Reasi whose bodies have not been recovered as yet.
Talking to reporters here, today, he said out of 40 persons feared dead in Saddal only 13 bodies were recovered from debris while 27 are still missing.
Mr Sharma expressed his grave concern over the slow pace of rescue and evacuation operations. He demanded deployment of heavy machinery and full team of NDRF for evacuation to save the area from epidemic as the foul smell has already started polluting the atmosphere there due to burying of hundreds of animals under the debris as reported by the inhabitants of the area.
He said the people whose bodies have not been recovered till date be declared as dead instead of missing and the families be rehabilitated well in time.
Mr Sharma however complimented the Union Minister of State in PMO with independent Charge of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh for adopting two totally damaged villages Saddal and Seri in Reasi district for their reconstruction and rebuilding under PM’s package announced on August 15 by PM himself.
He said a team of BJP Katra unit led by him visited the Block Moungri along with Tehsildar and BDO Moungri where various areas were hit by incessant rains to assess the damage. They distributed the ration, blankets and other relief material among the affected families of two villages.
He said education system has been totally paralyzed due to collapse of school building of village Saddal and temporary classes/schools be started in tented accommodations.
MLA also demanded that other affected 121 families whose 47 houses got totally damaged due to land slide be considered for relief. Besides, families putting up the 20 houses which are in danger zone and 54 houses which have been partially damaged be considered for proper rehabilitation.
BJP State vice president and Reasi district Prabhari Col Uttam Singh, RameshSharma, Ajay Baru and Ajay Verma were present in the press conference.
