MJR-47 activists pay floral tributes to martyrs of PoK

JAMMU, Oct 29: MJR-47, Movement for Justice of Refugees of 1947, organised “Sharadanjali Divas” to commemorate the martyrs of 1947 in Tribal raid of 1947 on the state at Indira Nagar here other day.
Kavinder Gupta, former Dy Chief Minister was the chief guest and Charanjit Singh Khalsa, MLC, Manohar Lal, former Minister, Ravinder Sharma, chief spokesman Congress, Ashok Sharma Ex- MLA were the guests of honour.
After lighting lamps, a two-minute silence was observed to pay homage and respect to the thousands of martyrs in the Tribal raid on Oct. 22, 1947.
All the speakers including the dignitaries highlighted the role of the martyrs in holding the fast movement of the Tribal’s towards capital Srinagar. They said almost every family had lost someone in the raid.
The speakers highlighted that inspite of giving sacrifices for the state many families have been deprived of the houses and comprehensive package. They have been subjected to discrimination and injustice for the last seven decades. Most of the DP’s families are still living the same refugee camps.
They alleged that PDP-BJP dispensation in the state had further discriminated and reduced the financial package of Rs 30 lakhs duly recommended by the State and JPC to meager Rs. 5.5 lakhs per family of 1947.
Speakers expressed great anguish over the attitude of the State authorities and said that as compared to Valley migrants who had brought all their belonging and have their properties intact within the state, the GoI has been giving them package after package while ignoring the DP’s of 1947 on all counts. A large number of DP’s attended the function.
