RAJOURI, July 11: The dead body of a youth who went missing after jumping into the nallah on being chased away by the Army jawans from a firing range in Narian on July 9, was recovered from nallah near Nowshera bridge today.
Reports said the dead body of 25-year-old Showkat Hussain, son of Bagh Hussain of Dhandri village in Narian area was recovered during search operation by police and local villagers today. The body had been washed away and found trapped in the rocks.
The police party led by SHO Nowshera Yash Paul, shifted the body to Sub- District Hospital Nowshera for postmortem and later handed over to the family for last rites. The police registered a case under Section 174 CrPC in this connection and started investigation. The family and villagers have held Army jawans responsible for the death of the youth who in panic jumped into the nallah while being chased and washed away.
It may be recalled that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the boys Showkat and his younger brother, Sarwar Hussain had gone to the Army firing range at Narian. The practice firing was going on. These boys had gone there to collect empty cartridges (Sikka) at the range. The soldiers saw them and chased away while issuing warnings to stay away from the danger zone. The boys in panic ran away and in the process one of them slipped into the nallah.
The younger brother when reached home told parents that his Showkat was also running behind and he suddenly went missing. He said that he may also arrive after some time. But after long when he did not return the family started searching for him and also informed police. The police started search along with villagers but they could not trace him Tuesday evening and also on Wednesday. There was rain during the night and flood had washed away the body a few kilometers down stream. Today, it was recovered from the nallah near the main bridge on Jammu-Poonch Highway at Nowshera. The police said that Army has denied having chased away the boys. The Army said the civilians were just warned to stay away from the danger zone during firing practice at Narian.
