JAMMU, Aug 2: National Awami United Party (NAUP) general secretary for Women Wing, Shikha Bandral has expressed concern over the increase in number of cases of missing women in J&K.
Addressing a press conference here today Bandral flayed security agencies for not properly displaying their duties and not coming out with correct figures of crime against women.
She claimed that according to missing reports from 2019 to 2021 about 10,000 women and girls were missing in J&K.
The NAUP leader appealed to the DGP, Dilbagh Singh to take stern action against the officials who are not shown seriousness to control the crime.
She also appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to ask his administration why the crime against women has increased from 2019 to 2021.
“Recent reports shows the number of missing girls under 18 are 1148 and women above 18 are 8617 but the figures can be more as many cases are not reported,” she maintained adding that these figures are not a good sign for J&K after the abrogation of Article 370.”
She further said that the agencies should check mushrooming population in outer circle of Jammu and should identify the immigrants from their Aadhar cards and other documents.
NAUP leaders present in the press conference were Pinki Bhagat, Bandhana Devi, Sushma Devi, Devo Devi and Krishna Devi.
