CHENNAI, Apr 5: Saving sections of class X students of two schools from the ordeal of a re-exam after their answer sheets of the ongoing board exams were lost or damaged in transit, Tamil Nadu Government today announced they would be given at least pass marks.
Replying to a special call attention by members of various parties, state Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Vaigai Selvan said two bundles accidentally fell off a train near Vridhachalam in Cuddalore District on March 29 while being taken to the valuation centre.
Of this, 220 answer sheets were not damaged at all, 54 of them partially damaged and the remaining 63 completely damaged, he said.
“…The 63 Tamil Paper II answer sheets would be given the same marks these students had obtained in Paper I. Those who score less than qualifying marks in the first paper, would be given the minimum pass marks,” Selvan said.
As for another incident where two bundles containing 221 English Paper I answer sheets went missing near Gingee in Villupuram district, he said, “Marks would be given to the missing answer sheets.”
He attributed both the incidents to the “negligent attitude” of the postal department. (PTI)
