Chairman Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Molavi Omar Farooq has warned Kashmiri Muslims not to play in the hands of elements promoting extremism and terrorism. He was delivering his presidential address at a Seerat conference organized by Jammu Kashmir Awami Majlis-e-Amal at Mirwaiz Manzil in Rajouri Kadal area of Srinagar. He lamented that peaceful teachings of Islam were distorted and Islam was presented as supporting violence and extremism. This was not the right interpretation of Islam, he added.
His statement is welcomed and we hope that all of his followers and beneficiaries will take a pledge of rejecting terrorism and extremism in Kashmir. His message must, in particular, be heard by those in Kashmir and elsewhere in the State who glorify themselves by unfurling the flags of ISIS, al-Qaeda and Pakistan. Though zealots find opportunities of unfurling these flags, yet that activity makes no impact at all on broad masses. The message of Mirwaiz will certainly reinforce the resolve of peace loving Kashmiris of rejecting terrorism and radicalism. The majority of them want to live a peaceful and decent life.
