SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Government today released Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Mohammad Yaseen Malik who were arrested during unrest after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani.
Mirwaiz and Malik were released this evening from Sub-Jail and Central Jail in Srinagar respectively. Mirwaiz has reached home but Malik who was undergoing treatment in SKIMS hospital in Soura is in the hospital. Mirwaiz was arrested on August 27 from Srinagar when he was planning to lead a march to Eidgah.
Sources said that the mobile internet that was blocked during the unrest since July this year may be restored soon and a decision to this effect is expected tomorrow.
The release of the two separatist leaders comes at a time when a Central team, including members from Civil Society headed by former Union Minister for External Affairs Yashwant Sinha is visiting Kashmir.
The team will call on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and other Ministers. It will also meet various mainstream opposition leaders.
The members of the delegation include MP Jai Ram Ramesh, Wajahat Habibullah, Bharat Bhushan, Journalist (Editor of Catch News) Kapil Kak, and Sushoba Arve.
