Miraculous escape for two as car catches fire

RAMBAN, May 10: Two persons had a miraculous escape after a car they were travelling in caught fire near Dalwas area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, an Opal Corsa car bearing registration number DL9CG-8067 on its way to Jammu from Srinagar caught fire near Dalwas area of Chanderkote police station.
Owner of the car Atul Kalia, son of Shanti Saroop of Karan Nagar, Jammu on seeing smoke billowing out of the vehicle, alighted from the vehicle along with his associate namely Om Parkash, son of Yog Raj of Chowk Chabutra,  Jammu.
After getting information, police team from Chandekote police station led by SHO Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Kohli rushed to the spot and informed the Department of Fire and Emergency Services about the incident.
The fire fighters along with fire tenders from Batote and Ramban fire stations reached the spot, but till then the car got completely damaged.
Due to the incident, the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway also came to standstill for some time, but the highway was restored later by cops of Chanderkote police station and traffic personnel.
When contacted, SHO Chanderkote police station Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Kohli told the EXCELSIOR that some technical glitch caused the fire.
The occupants of the car had a miraculous escape as they got down from the vehicle immediately after noticing smoke emanating from the vehicle, he said, adding that the vehicle got completely damaged.
“We have registered a case under relevant Sections in this regard to ascertain the exact cause of fire”, Mr Kohli stated.
