POONCH, May 26: Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir today convened a meeting of district officers to review the working of Labour and Social Welfare Departments in the district today.
While reviewing the functioning of the department, the Deputy Chairman called upon the officers to ensure effective implementation of various social welfare programmes so that their benefits percolate down to the targeted section. He further stressed on ensuring transparency and accountability in the working of the department .
He urged the officers to organize awareness camps about various welfare schemes so that people avail their benefits to the optimum. He further asked the officers to adopt a proactive approach in implementing the welfare schemes to ameliorate the sufferings of underprivileged sections of society.
Stressing on the need to provide a conducive working atmosphere , Mir asked the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) to ensure strict enforcement of various welfare measures meant for labour class. He also instructed her to look into various issues like safety of labourers, strengthening of labour laws etc
Earlier, the Assistant Labour Commissioner briefed the Deputy Chairman about the activities of the department and apprised him of the implementation of various welfare schemes for labourers in the district.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Arvind Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police, Amit Gupta, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Rabia Iqbal besides officers of social welfare department attended the meeting.
