‘Appointment of new chief to take time’

Srinagar, Aug 11: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) party incharge for Jammu and Kashmir Affairs, Rajni Patil, today said that Ghulam Ahmad Mir continues to be the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief.
Mir had submitted his resignation to the AICC on July 6, 2022, after serving as JKPCC chief for eight years.
Patil said that according to the Udaipur declaration, it has been decided that the leader after serving as president will have to be removed from the post.
“Following the declaration, G A Mir tendered his resignation,” she said, adding that the party is deliberating over the appointment of a new JKPCC president.
She said that Mir continues to be the president of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir as his resignation has not been accepted yet.
She without revealing the exact time and name of the new president said that it would take time to appoint the new president.
The search for the new JKPCC chief has already been started. Names of few party leaders have been put forth for the new chief and they include Vikar Rasool Wani, G M Saroori and G N Monga.
A series of meetings have been chaired by the Central leadership in this regard in which the leaders from Jammu and Kashmir were called separately to seek their viewpoints on candidates and other related issues.
