Minor’s death sparks protest in GMC

JAMMU, Oct 13: A protest broke out today against alleged negligence of doctors after a minor girl died here at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The family and relatives of a girl namely Sadia,4, this morning staged protest in front of Emergency Unit of the hospital, alleging doctor’s negligence.
“The child had a fall from rooftop at her house three days back in native village of Doda district and was rushed to District Hospital, Doda, from where she was yesterday referred here at GMCH Jammu,” police officials said quoting family members of the deceased child.

They said that the family members alleged that the child was not responding to the treatment and despite that doctors kept experimenting and finally she died this morning.
“Hearing hue and cry of family members, senior doctors and administrative officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters after which they dispersed”, they said, adding no formal complaint against any doctor has been submitted by family members.
When contacted, Deputy Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Rakesh Sharma, said that the deceased child with complaint of internal contusion of brain was admitted in Room No 4 of the Emergency Unit of the hospital.
He said that in such cases, patient may be recovered or even collapse but in this case the patient collapsed at about 11.45 PM following which family members accused the doctors on duty for negligence in treatment of their patient. “However, I personally went to them and managed to pacify them by convincing them that there is no negligence on the part of the doctors”, he added.
