MENDHAR, June 9: Seven members of minority community today launched hunger strike at Shahidi Yadgar Mendhar in protest against the alleged land grabbing by some people from the other community and failure of Revenue authorities to provide them justice.
Head of the family Sat Bhushan, son of Joginder Pal, resident of Ari village in Mendhar along with his wife, two daughters and three sons sat on protest dharna at Mendhar town bearing black badges this morning. This family has been demanding justice since long as their nearly 70 kanals of land has been allegedly grabbed by three local villagers including a retired Police Sub Inspector by forging documents in connivance with the Patwaris and other revenue staff. This is the only minority community family residing in that area. This is the third time that this family has gone on hunger strike. Earlier, in March on the assurance of DC Poonch they had lifted dharna.
Sat Bhaushan claimed that he had 75 kanal and 8 marla land under Khasra Nos. 668, 675, 677 and 727 at Ari. Now they are left with only 4 kanals and 5 marla land. The remaining land in connivance with the Revenue officials has been grabbed by Nazir Hussain, Ziafat Hussain Qazi and Munnawa Hussain retired Police SI. He alleged that being only minority community family they were facing harassment. Their power connection and even water connection is snapped by some people just to harass them. This happened many times. They were also receiving threats from some of the families. He said that he has lost hope to get justice as despite DC’s assurances, inquiry team appointed by SDM failed to submit report even after three months. He alleged that Revenue officials were trying to protect their own people and also supporting accused party members who are influential.
The protest was joined by Sarpanch Devinder Kumar Tandon Sarpanch, Beopar Mandal president Parveen Kumar Sawhney and SD Sabha president Mendhar Satish Sharma, The minority community people have appealed the District Administration to provide justice to this family otherwise they would launch indefinite agitation at Mendhar town.
