Minor girl murdered

JAMMU, Aug 17: A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and killed by unknown attackers in Ganderbal district today, while her elder sister, who was with her at the time, managed to escape and is currently under medical care.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, said the girl was abducted near her home. “Her body was later recovered on the Batsar-Sehpora road. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted, and forensic as well as technical experts have been invited from Srinagar to assist in the probe. CCTV footage is being analyzed to trace the culprits,” he said.
Police confirmed that a board of doctors has also been constituted to conduct a detailed medico-legal examination. Poswal assured that the case is being treated with utmost priority. “We will ensure the accused are identified and brought to justice through proper judicial determination,” he said.
The SSP said the victim’s sister, who witnessed the incident, has vital information about the attackers, but the family is in trauma. “Investigators are awaiting her detailed statement once she is medically fit,” he said.
Meanwhile, locals staged protests against the gruesome killing, demanding immediate arrest and the harshest punishment for the attackers. A protester expressed anger, saying, “She was just 12 years old. We want the murderers. Today it happened with her; tomorrow it can happen with anyone”.
“We cannot accompany our children all the time. The culprits must be punished severely so that it is not repeated,” a protester said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed deep anguish over the tragic killing of a minor girl in Ganderbal, describing the incident as “inhuman and reprehensible.”
Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister said such heinous acts shock the collective conscience of society.
He stressed that the perpetrators of this crime deserve the severest punishment under the law.
