Mines explode in LoC fire

JAMMU, May 7: Several landmines have exploded along the Line of Control (LoC) after devastating fire broke out in Mankote sector of Poonch district.
“The fire broke out close to the fence last evening due to heavy shelling and unprovoked firing by Pakistan and it spread to nearby parts of the LoC this afternoon,” official sources here said.
They added that the fire covered a larger area along the LoC, which put Army personnel guarding forward posts on alert.
“Due to forest fire, many mines also exploded while the loud sound of explosions panicked the border dwellers,” they said.
However, no loss of any life or damage to the property was reported in the forest fire.
