Militants turn hi-tech, Govt indifferent: Dr Jitendra

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, July 5: BJP National Executive Member,National TV panelist & J&K chief spokesperson Dr Jitendra Singh warned here today that even as there is enough evidence to establish that foreign sponsored militants in the State are turning hi-tech and opting for highly sophisticated and more lethal methods of operation, the Government is not only deliberately indifferent  but adopting an unprofessional approach simply  to appease the “separatist” vote bank.
While the ruling National Conference (NC) is unabashedly constrained by its competitive Kashmir-centric politics, it is the coalition ally, the Congress party which will have a lot to explain to justify its silence in the months to come when elections are round the corner, he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, soon after the revelations recently made by outgoing 15 Corps GOC Lt Gen Om Prakash that there are over 300 militants still active in the State out of whom 60% are foreign militants, it is now none less than the Union Home Minister who has gone on record to confirm this and to further state that there are in addition  several hundred armed terrorists waiting across the LoC to sneak in. Besides, the level of infiltration has, instead of declining, further gone up, he added.
While citing figures he said that in 2012, 264 terrorists attempted infiltration as compared to 247 in 2011 while 121 terrorists succeeded in entering the State in 2012 as compared 52 in 2011.
Referring to evidence based on Intelligence inputs of last few weeks, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the new crop of militants, particularly those backed by the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)  are equipped with hi-tech gadgetry and, are also educated and trained adequately enough at modern warfare techniques. He said that several intercepted messages have revealed that these militants are using VoIP (Voice on Internet Protocol) technology for communication in order to escape the possibility of their cell phones or telephones getting easily tapped.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that even though the number of militants operating in the State may have gone down compared to earlier decades, their hi-tech preparedness has kept their lethal or striking capacity undiminished and this is a matter of concern particularly when this is tourist season going on in Kashmir.Recent spurt in Jehadi attacks on Armed forces in the Valley testifies this,he added. Citing instances,he said, only last fortnight , eight Army soldiers were killed and 11 others injured in a gunfight with a group of terrorists in Bemina on the outskirts of Srinagar while two policemen were gunned down in Pulwama.
