Srinagar, Mar 11: Militants this evening attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Tahab area of Pulwama in South Kashmir and a bullet riddled body of a man, allegedly killed by militants, was recovered from North Kashmir’s Handwara area today.
Police said that militants hurled a grenade at the CRPF camp of 182 battalion in Tahab area of Pulwama and fired at it. No injury or loss of life was reported in the attack and the CRPF personnel fired back and militants, however, managed to flee.
Reinforcement of Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police rushed to the area and launched massive searches to nab the attackers.
And police today said that bullet-riddled body of a missing youth was recovered from an orchard in Super Naghama village of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A police official said that police received information that a bullet ridden body is lying in the orchards of Super Naghama. “On receiving this information, police reached the spot and recovered the body,” he said, adding that the body was identified as that of 32-year old Shahnawaz Ahmad Khan of Super Naghama village. Police suspect involvement of militants in the murder.
Locals said that the youth was a tractor driver by profession and during 2016 turmoil he was hit by a bullet in his left leg after which he was undergoing treatment at SKIMS Soura in Srinagar for two months. They further said that he was also booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) during 2010 unrest.
After completion of legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites, said the police, adding that a case under FIR number 10 under Section 302 RPC, 7/27 IA Act was registered and investigation taken up.
Meanwhile, the police said that a student is missing from his home in Kupwara since March 4. “A 25 year-old youth namely Tahir Ahmad Mir of Potushahi village of Lolab in Kupwara is missing from his home. He has left home for Kupwara on March 4 and did not return,” a police spokesman said.
He is a student of B.A 1st year, wearing cream colored salwar kameez and blue jacket, the police said, adding that anybody having any information about the missing person may please contact police in Kupwara.
Security forces today conducted a search and cordon operation at Kralpora on the outskirts of Srinagar city in Budgam district after suspecting presence of militants in the area.
Sources said that the security personnel cordoned off Kralpora today afternoon and launched a search operation. The search operation continued for more than an hour and created panic among locals and shopkeepers. However, the operation was later called off without anyone being arrested.
Meanwhile, militants fired over a dozen gunshots outside the residential house of a middle-rung police officer posted in south Kashmir’s Awantipora at Kralcheck village of Chadoora in Budgam district last night.
Sources said the militants appeared outside the house of the officer, who is serving in counter-insurgency wing of police, last night at around 10:20 pm and fired gunshots in a bid to scare his family members. However, no one was inured in the firing and militants soon after firing fled from the spot. The officer was not present in his house.
Later, security forces arrived on the spot and cordoned off the area but no one was arrested. The incident comes just few days after Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid warned militants against involving families of cops in the confrontation between police and militants. The warning had come in the wake of militant raid on a senior police officer’s house at Shopian district.
