SRINAGAR: A militant was killed by security forces and one or two are still trapped inside a house in south Kashmir, where an encounter ensued this afternoon.
Official sources said that on a tip-off about the presence of militants at Waibugh Kokernag in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation this afternoon.
However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there fired at them indiscriminately with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter, they said adding that one militant was, so far, killed.
Additional security forces were rushed to further cordon off the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape, they said, adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in. There could be one or two more militants hold up there, they said. (AGENCIES)
