SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Police today arrested a Special Police Officer (SPO) turned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant from Sopore in North Kashmir district of Baramulla and security forces busted two militant hideouts in Central Kashmir district of Budgam and North Kashmir district of Kupwara and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition.
A police spokesman claimed: “Police arrested LeT militant who had rejoined militant ranks along with a police rifle. The AK rifle was recovered from his possession.”
The spokesman said acting on an intelligence input, the police arrested Mohammad Shafi Dar alias Ukasha.
A case under Section 7/25 Arms Act was registered in Police Station Dangwacha against Dar and investigation has been taken up, the spokesman said adding the apprehended militant was a close associate of slain LeT commander Abdullah Yuni.
SPO Dar had run away from SOG camp Sopore last month along with a rifle and joined LeT.
Meanwhile, security forces busted two militant hideouts one at Magam in Central Kashmir district of Budgam and another at Handwara in district Kupwara.
Police said: “Acting on a specific input, security forces launched an operation and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Magam area.”
The police spokesman said that the recoveries included 10 rocket propelled grenades, four Chinese grenades, 89 AK rounds and some eatables.
In another operation, an Army spokesman said that based on specific input a search teams of Army and JKP Handwara conducted a successful operation in Kralsangar Forest in Kupwara district today.
“During the search operation a large cache of warlike stores which included 2 Russian Made Rocket launcher, three AK magzines, 3 Chinese pistols, 3 pistol magazines, AK rounds 17 and Radio Antina were recovered.
“Besides successfully handling flood relief in Valley and reaching out to people at every nook and corners, Army is vigilant to foil likely attempts of militants to use explosives and weapons to create unrest in the region”, said the spokesman.
