Militant, 4 OGWs arrested

SRINAGAR, Aug 11 : Police today arrested a militant and four Over Ground Workers of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police said that acting on a credible information regarding cross-LoC smuggling of weapons and war like stores by militant associates and their further delivery to active militants, a joint operation was carried out during last night by Kupwara Police, 28 RR of Army and 162 Battalion of CRPF.
“During the search operation, one active militant identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdullah Bhat of Lalpora Lolab of HM was apprehended. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-47 rifle and a Chinese pistol with magazines were recovered from his possession,” police said.
It added that the joint team also apprehended four OGWs of Hizb. They have been identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir, son of Abdullah Mir of Hajibal Narizeb Kalarooch, Ghulam Mohammad Kohli, son of Ghulam Hassan Kohli of Warnnow Lolab, Nizam Din Gujjar, son of Mohammad Yaqoob of Gujjarpati Bandipora and Abdul Qayoom Gujjar, son of Mirza Gujjar of Khenura Bandipora.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one pistol, 60 AK rounds, two pistol magazines, 12 pistol rounds and one pouch were recovered from their possession,” he said.
Police said that as per the police records, they were involved in providing logistic support and transporting arms and ammunition to the active militants of HM operating in the Valley.
“They were also involved in establishing contacts with active militant commanders’ including Riyaz and Amjad of Bandipora currently operating at Sonar launch pad as commanders for smuggling and supply of weapons to militants active in the Valley,” police said.
Police spokesman said that a case FIR number 105/2020 under relevant Sections of law stands registered in Police Station Lalpora. “Further investigation is going on”, police said.
