Srinagar, May 6: Noted trade leader from north Kashmir, Fayaz Ahmad Malik, also known as Kaka Ji, joined the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) today in the presence of party President Mehbooba Mufti.
Speaking on the occasion at the party headquarters here, the PDP President said that her party has always kept its doors open for people with perspective minds, and that Kaka Ji’s joining will help strengthen the party further on the ground.
While reiterating the party’s unwavering commitment to the principles drawn from the founding ethos of her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, she said that he laid down a clear path to be adhered to by the party and anyone who has compassion for the people of J&K.
“Fayaz does not need any introduction; Mufti was always inclined towards the growth and progress of the fruit industry. He would have done a lot but life did not let that happen,” Mufti said.
Later, while interacting with the media, the PDP president criticized the BJP over rising militant attacks in the Pir Panjal region, which, she said, used to be a peaceful area.
“Under BJP’s rule, peaceful and militancy-free areas are witnessing militant attacks. The areas which were peaceful and militancy-free are now witnessing militant attacks. If they are saying that they have put an end to militancy and the situation is normal, why are these incidents happening,” she asked.
Malik, who is also the president of the Fruit Growers Association of Fruit Mandi Sopore, noted key steps taken by the Government when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was the Chief Minister.
He also said that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed always focused on improving the marketing and branding of Kashmir’s fruit industry, and it was during his tenure when the market intervention scheme for horticulture was introduced in J&K.
Reiterating his commitment to work for strengthening the party fold further at the grassroots level in North Kashmir, he said that his prime focus will also remain on addressing the challenges faced by the fruit growers and dealers in J&K.
On the occasion, another leader of the Trade Federation, Javed Ahmad, joined the PDP.
