MUMBAI: Former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey has praised MS Dhoni, saying the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is the ‘biggest finisher’ the sport of cricket has ever seen.
“Dhoni is the greatest finisher of all time that the cricketing world has ever produced,” Hussey told Sanjay Manjarekar on ESPNcricinfo’s Videocast.
Hussey, who himself was known for his finishing abilities, believed Dhoni’s instincts and mental toughness at his peak made opposition captains blink first under pressure.
”Dhoni can preserve his cool and make the opposition captain blink first. Dhoni additionally has unbelievable energy. He is aware of that when he must clear the ropes, he can do it. He has that sort of self-belief. Truthfully, I did not have that sort of perception in myself,” Hussey said.
Having shared a dressing room with the former India captain for seven years across two IPL stints, Hussey said he also picked up a trick or two about chasing from Dhoni while playing for Chennai Super Kings.
“I tried not to let it reach 12 or 13 runs an over. And I learnt this from MS Dhoni. He is incredible. He believes that he who panics last wins the game. So Dhoni would keep his cool, and keep it longer because the pressure is on the bowler as well, ” he said. (AGENCIES)
