JAMMU, Feb 11: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) organized the Dr Arun K Gupta Memorial Lecture at its campus.
Prof Rajni Kant, Director College Development Council and Dean Faculty of Sciences, University of Jammu, delivered the lecture on “Excellence in Teaching and Research”.
The Dr Arun K Gupta Memorial Lecture Series has been instituted in the memory of Late Dr Arun K Gupta, founder Chairperson, MIER Group, who was a renowned educator, researcher, institution builder and mentor to thousands of students and teachers in the region. He not only established Model Academy as a leading school of Jammu, but also founded the MIER College of Education (Autonomous) in 1981 and Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous) and led them to become J&Ks first private Autonomous institutions in higher education.
Prof Rajni Kant chose the topic “Excellence in Teaching and Research” as it was very dear to Dr Arun K Gupta. Prof Rajni Kant apprised the audience that he began his early career with Dr Arun K Gupta at the Model Academy as a Physics teacher before joining the University of Jammu and recalled fond memories of Dr Arun K Gupta, shedding light on his passion and commitment towards his students and profession.
He lamented the lack of deep engagement with the learners across school and higher education by the teachers and hoped that the education ecosystem would reinvigorate itself and rediscover the “Guru-Shishya” tradition.
Prof Rajni Kant then proceeded to recount the challenges faced during his life and academic career and how he overcome challenges related to learning, research, funding and improving continuously as a teacher.
Earlier Prof Ankur Gupta, Director MIET, presented a welcome address and apprised the audience about stellar achievements and accomplishments of Prof Rajni Kant.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Prof S K Sharma, Prof G S Sambyal, Prof B C Sharma, Ashwani Padha, Prof Ashok Kumar and Prof Sahil Sawhney.
