Middle School being run in 2 rooms with 4 teachers; students protest

UDHAMPUR, Feb 9: Up in arms against inadequate class rooms and teaching staff, student of Government Middle School Petta, Zone Kulwanta and the local villagers today held a strong protest demonstration.
They said that Government Middle School Petta is functioning in two rooms and there are four Teachers only to teach eight classes. “Due to the lack of classrooms, the teachers are forced to take classes under open sky and in case of bad weather, there used to be virtually no class work as it is impracticable to hold eight classes in two rooms,” they said.
The school was established in 2004 as Primary School and it was upgraded to Middle standard in 2011 but the required infrastructure was never provided. Due to the shortage of staff in the school, the students are facing manifold problems to get their queries solved pertaining to their subjects, the villagers said.
The has strength of 100 students, including 65 girl students. How can the standard of education be improved in Government schools when they san class rooms for children and teaching staff? Asked a girl student while raising a question mark on the Government’s `Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ campaign.
Locals and school children appealed to the Education Department and Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu to take cognizance of the matter and issue necessary instructions for construction of new building for the school besides posting of adequate teaching staff there.
The protest demonstration was addressed by Jagdish Chander, Parkash Chand, Ved Raj, Roshan Lal, Kewal Singh, Sudesh Kumar, Hans Raj, Sagar Singh and Romesh Chander.
