NEW DELHI : In a bid to reach out to needy youth, the National Skill Development Corporation(NSDC) and the Home Ministry will undertake a special recruitment drive in Kupwara region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Over 10 corporates from across the country will be visiting Kupwara for a two-day recruitment drive beginning tomorrow. The visiting corporates from various sectors including Finance, Tourism, Human Resource, Construction, Automation and Information Technology and IT Enabled Services will be scouting for fresh talent in the above bordering district, an official spokesperson
said here today.
This initiative is part of series of mega selection drives being conducted in the state to scout fresh talent from the state.
Around eight more such drives are planned in the state in the next two months to cover the far flung areas including Samba, Sopore, Baramulla, Kathua, Reasi and Doda. Three drives have already been conducted in Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur which had evoked tremendous response from the students.
In these drives nearly 2,400 candidates were selected and many more from the final year academic session were short-listed for selection.
Special Industry Initiative or ‘Udaan’ was conceived with two objectives of providing exposure to the graduates and post graduates of Jammu and Kashmir to the best of corporate India and providing corporate India with access to the rich talent pool available in the state, the spokesperson said. The scheme is based on the recommendations of the Rangarajan Committee, which advocates setting up of progressive programme for training of the youth of the state by the Corporate located in different states of the country and making these youth employable.
During January, 2013, under a Special Industry Initiative, NSDC and the Home Ministry have been mandated to work with the corporate sector in bringing about a positive change in the employment and skills space of the state. Till date 63 corporates have partnered with ‘Udaan’ Scheme and have given a commitment to train nearly 74,000 youth from the State.
More than 6,000 candidates have joined training till date of whom more than 2,500 have been given jobs by leading corporate like Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance, CMC, Ligare, Tata Motors, Yes Bank and Canara Bank among others. (AGENCIES)
