NEW DELHI: Congress today took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discounting the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS) as monument of failure of previous Congress regimes and asserted that the scheme was hailed by UNDP as the best job guarantee plan. “He(Modi) played petty and called MGNREGA a “monument of failure”..,..World is calling MGNREGA the best job guarantee plan”, the opposition party said in a tweet today.
PM Modi had said (in Parliament) MGNREGS is a living monument of failures where as the UNDP terms it as the best job guarantee plan for rural poor”, the party tweeted at its official social media site. A recent UNDP report said that MGNREGS is a milestone..,..from less than 1 billion work days in 2006-2007, it has achieved 2.5 billion work days in 2010-2011, the party said.
