JAMMU, Aug 24: All J&K MGNREGA employees who are on protest/strike for the last over a week have urged upon the Lt Governor, M K Sinha to address their issues.
These employees assembled near Maharaja Hari Singh Park in Jammu during the day today and staged protest demonstration, demanding their permanent absorption in the Rural Development Department. They were shouting slogans against the Government and demanding regularization.
Provincial president of the Association, Amit Mishra criticized the Chief Secretary for his remarks regarding throwing away of the MGNREGA workers. He said these workers are engaged for the last over 14 years and performing various jobs like computer/ DTP operators, Technical Assistants, Gram Rozgar Sevaks, MIS operators etc. Many of them are highly qualified. Majority of them are married and thety have the families to support. Throwing them out at this juncture is a cruel act of snatching livelihood of lakhs of people.
He pointed out that the services of these workers are being utilised in nearly 18 sectors of RDD. They are the back bone of implementing many Schmes of the Government of India. The J&K UT Administration must take initiative for the regularization of these workers.
These protesting workers appealed to the Lt Governor, MK Sinha to intervene personally and issue orders of regularization of these workers.
