SRINAGAR, July 23: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association today held a protest demonstration demanding their absorption in Rural Development Department (RDD) & PR.
Hundreds of employees assembled at Pratap Park early in the morning and protested against failure of the Government in fulfilling the genuine demand of MGNREGA employees.
The protesters including Program Officers, MIS Operators, Technical Assistants, Gram Rozgar Sahayaks and Accounts Assistants alleged that the successive Governments played with their future by giving hallow promises and assurances. “The committee in this regard was already constituted in the year 2017 and were given instructions to submit report within the period of two months but after seven months neither any report nor proposal regarding the issue was framed till date,” they said.

Tariq Ahmad, a protesting employee said that the highly qualified, skilled and experienced youth are working in the department since 12 years and they should be absorbed in the department on priority basis. “The employees who are working in different schemes including PMAY(G), SBM, CDF, MPLADS, MGNREGA etc from past 12 years and various employees have now crossed the age bar. The results are touching sky high because of their hard work, participation and involvement. So, keeping in mind the experience of the employees, they should be absorbed in the department on priority basis,” he said.
Chairman of the Association, Syed Jaffar said that Government should form a job policy for the absorption of the employees in the newly created sanctioned 177 CD Blocks. “Recently reconstituted committee has been authorized to amend or change recruitment rules of the department, so the future of 4500 employees and their associated families may be saved,” he said.
The protesting employees threatened that they will intensify the protests in coming days if Government fails to fulfill their demands.
