MGNREGA employees continue pen down strike

DODA, Aug 19: Like other parts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the supporting staff working under the Central Sponsored Scheme MGNREGA continued their pen down strike in different areas of this district including Kahara, Chilly Pingal, Ghat, Thathri, Jakyas, Gundana, Assar and Gandoh.
“We are working day and night for the Rural Development Department (RDD) from last 13 years. Only assurances were given and no policy has been framed by the Government for our regularization”, the employees said.
It is pertinent to mention here that, MGNREGA supporting staff working UT of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to observe pen down strike for four days from August 16 to 20.
Mohammad Issa and Pawan Kumar from MGNREGA Employees Association, Chilly Block said that they have been working in the department of Rural Development since 13 years. Promises and betrayals by previous ruling Governments have ruined their career and nothing substantial was done in their favour, they added.
They appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha to regularise their services at an earliest, so that they can give a good and bright future to their children and can feed their families properly.
