Srinagar, Nov 9: After a forecast of widespread rain and snow in J&K and Ladakh from November 13, the MeT department today issued a weather advisory.
The MeT department said that an active Western Disturbance is most likely to affect the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and adjoining areas from November 13 (evening) to (late night) November 15.
“Under the influence of this weather system, widespread moderate rain/snow is expected in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. Light rain/snow would commence at a few places of Kashmir on November 13 (night) and thereafter increase in intensity and distribution with its peak during November 14 and 15 and gradual decrease thereafter,” the advisory read.
“Main activity of this system, moderate to heavy rain/snow at isolated places is most likely during November 14 and November 15. The system is likely to cause heavy rain/snow mainly in upper reaches of Kashmir (Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Baramulla, Bandipora (Gurez & Tulail Valley) and Kupwara (Karnah Sector), Shopian, Qazigund-Banihal axis, Pirpanjal Range of Jammu Division, Drass (Gumri & Minamarg) and Zanskar subdivision of Ladakh UT,” it stated.
Putting out the likely impacts of it, the MeT said, this may lead to temporary disruption of air and surface transportation mainly on Jammu- Srinagar/Srinagar-Leh National Highway, Mughal Road and other major roads.
“Landslides and shooting stones in vulnerable spots of Jammu- Srinagar/Srinagar-Leh National Highway may disrupt agricultural operations like apple harvesting and orchard management. There will be dip in day temperature and a slight increase in night temp,” it said.
Meanwhile, after the advisory, the district administration Anantnag has ordered the closure of traffic movement on Kokernag-Margan Top-Marwah-Warwan Road from the evening of November 12 (Thursday) keeping in view the prediction of snowfall and the condition of the road.
