Message through cartoonist

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Cartoonist’s job is to convey social messages through humour’ DE Oct 30.
President of India Pranab Mukherjee has rightly said that it is job of a ‘Cartoonist to convey social messages by using humour as a tool.
India has produced a good number of Cartoonist who did their job keeping in view the importance of a cartoon. They have through their highlighted some serious, social and political issues. They have done it with utmost restraint and decency.
However, it seems that political class in India is not at ease with cartoons depicting their misdeeds. The intolerance towards cartoonists can be gauged from the fact that a cartoonist was under fire from Bengal Chief Minister on depicting her in a way she deemed offensive.
Many cartoons were deleted from NCERT books when politicians of all hues took umbrage over the intension of the cartoonist who sketched them.
Besides, seditious charges were framed against a cartoonist recently.
A cartoonist can convey message clearly only if he is not under any pressure or threat.
Yours etc….
