Addressing a press conference here today, Chairman of the Federation, Pt M R Sharma (From Harayana) and president Pt R S Goswami (TN/Delhi) said that World Brahman Federation firmly believes and is working towards creating a merit based India of 21st century. They said the reservations and quotas through ‘Mandalization’ has shackled Indian society that does not allow it to compete in a globalised world and has created mediocrity in the system of governance, educational institutions and society as a whole. A merit based society must be promoted for India progress and compete the world, they maintained.
The Federation chairman pointed out that every one has right to vote and right to contest. However, currently out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, 119 are reserved (79 SC & 40 ST). Similarly, 1165 seats are reserved in Vidhan Sabha all across the country (603 SC & 562 ST). This indicates that about 30 crore Indian citizens are deprived to stand in elections thus violating their Fundamental rights. The Federation has taken up this case in the court of law and the Apex court has now referred the matter to the Constitutional Bench, he added.
Referring to the settlement of Rohingya Muslims and Bangladehsis in Jammu in planned manner, the Federation leader strongly demanded that Government must repatriate the foreigners without any delay. He said the Federation took up the matter with Home Minister recently.
They further said that in view of the larger area and population of Jammu region as compared to Kashmir, the number of Assembly seats in Jammu be increased by at least 20 percent. The Federation also strongly demanded that Kashmiri Pandits should be rehabilitated in Kashmir. It suggested to set up Kashmiri Pandit Welfare Corporation as done by Andhra Pradesh Government and Telengana states for Brahmans. They regretted the decline in the population of Brahmans (Kashmiri Pandits) in Kashmir since 1947 and after the 1989 insurgency and alleged that respective Governments failed to protect the minorities in the State.
Meanwhile, a delegation of World Brahman Federation also met the DyCM Dr Nirmal Singh here today and discussed the issues related to Rohingyas, Bangaldeshis, rehabilitation of KPs in Kashmir and promoting merit based society.
