JAMMU, June 17: A mentally disturbed man set himself ablaze by sprinkling petrol on him near a Gurudwara in Gandhi Nagar area of city outskirts.
Quoting eye witnesses, a police official said that today about 6.30 PM, a man identified as Harmeet Singh son of Yashpal Singh, resident of Bhour Camp, sprinkled petrol on him and set himself on fire in front of Fateh Singh Gurudwara in Gandhi Nagar area.
He said some Sikh Sangat from Gurudwara rushed to his rescue and put a bed sheet on him but till then he was burnt completely. In serious condition, he was rushed to Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar but in view of his critical condition, he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for treatment.
“According to the eye witnesses, the victim was mentally disturbed and was providing his service in the Gurudwara since morning”, the police official said, adding what circumstances made him to take this extreme step is a matter of investigation.
