POONCH, May 31: Expressing grave concern over illicit drug abuse in Pir-Panjal region of district Poonch, Javed Ahmed Rana, the Central secretary of National Conference and former Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council lambasted on the local administration for their dilly-dallying approach in tackling this big menace that has jarred the normal and peaceful life of this region.
In this context, Rana stressed on recent upsurge of illegal drug trafficking in sub-division Mendhar that has reached to every nook and corner. “So far the illicit drug abuse has taken four lives in Chak Banola, Mendhar alone within a span of one month” Rana expressed with a lot of grief and sorrow while addressing a gathering here today.
“I feel very disheartened to find that youth are more susceptible to this menace and there is an apprehension that school children might also be exposed to this psychotropic wave,” the former Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council said in a concerned way. He further said that the public had reiterated to local authorities for a strict action but to their dismay no necessary action has been taken so far. As a result, lot of resentment is arousing among the public towards the authorities which is marching towards active volcano, he added.
Rana said, “It is beyond the scope of my thinking why local administration is mum over this issue which is flourishing like a weed under their nose. Either they are in some-way involved or have some vested interests”. The former MLA asserted that some kind of conspiracy is going on to deliberately to divert youth towards drugs and other antisocial activities.
He urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to take notice of this matter on priority basis and frame an enquiry committee in order to direct concerned authorities to execute their duties and responsibilities in a meaningful way. He also demanded that a special task force at sub-division level should be established under the supervision of one DySP to flash out the illicit drug abuse in the area.
