Memory cards also known as SD cards are almost used by everyone these days.SD means secure digital.Orignally they were named TF (trans flash) cards.First type of memory cards came as early as 1994 by Sandisk. An estimated 8,000-plus consumer electronics models manufactured by more than 400 brands worldwide rely on this technology. Its very important to know about basics of memory card if you are going to buy one.
They are basically classified on three properties:-The first is Size
*Cards with size aprox 32.0mm x 24.0mm and weight approx 2g are called SD cards used in digital cameras,Laptops, DSLR and camcorders.
*Cards with size 21.5mm x 20.0mm and weight approx 0.8gm are called miniSD cards used in some phones,PDA and laptops etc.
*Cards with size 11.0mm x 15.0mm and weight approx 0.25gm are called microSD cards most widely used form.Used in smartphones, tablets, digital cameras etc.
On basis of storage Type
Meaning    Capacity
SDSC or SD – Secure digital Standard Card      1 MB to 2 GB
SDHC – Secure Digital High Capacity                2 GB to 32 GB
SDXC – Secure Digital Extended Capacity    32 GB and above
we use Mostly SDHC type cards these days
Class 4 are the most used SD  card these days
The third and the more important is the minimum data transfer speed (DTS).
As per this category there are classes in which these cards fall classses are written on memory cardsthemselves.
Class    Minimum performance
Class 2    2 MB/sec    they are cheapest
Class 4    4 MB/sec              they are costlier than Class 2
Class 6     6 MB/sec             they are only a bit costlier
than class 4
Class 1010 MB/sec             they are costliest
The capacity depends on how much you want to have in but the class depends upon the device in which you are putting the card in.
*If you have to put it into some mobile then class 4 will do good but
*if you are putting it into some digital camera or camcorder that is HD then it’s good to put in class 6 or above.
There are some great shopping sites available to put in some class 10 cards which is not easily available.
So guy make your choice because if you have a device that is not capable of transferring data as per the lowest DTS then no use of buying a higher class.
