Mehjoor remembered in Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 13: A mega function was organised in Jammu to remember and pay tributes to Ghulam Ahmed Mehjoor.
The Jammu and Kashmir Mehjoor Foundation held a function at the auditorium of the Press Club of Jammu here, where veteran poets, academicians, writers, journalists and people from other walks of life spoke.
Former Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya was the chief guest, while former Chief Secretary M Shafi Pandit, former DG Archives Syed Khursheed Qadri, Journalist Anil Bhat, former DG DD Farooq Nazki and Prof R L Shant were guest of honours.
President of the Trust, Peerzada Afdal Mahjoor welcomed the guests, writers and poets and deliberated on the life and poetry of Mahjoor.
Veteran writers Prof Rattan Lal Talashi, Brij Nath Betab and Hasrat Gadda read research papers on Mahjoor Rajinder Aagosh, Satesh Koul, Aseer Kashtwari, Sheeraj Khaki, Ali Shaida, Nadem Shoqia, Santosh Nadem, Eng Vinood, Nasir Azam, A K Naaz, Masroor Majeed, Bashir ul Haq and Shahnaz Rashed presented their poems.
Famous folk singer Mohd Maqbool Bhat and his party presented the musical program.
On the occasion, educationist P L Pandita was made coordinator for Jammu and Brij Nath Betab was included in the advisory panel of the trust.
Mehjoor, popularly known as Shair-e-Kashmir or the Poet of Kashmir, was born on August 11, 1887 at Mitrigam, a south Kashmir village in Pulwama district. Through his verses, he rose to become the most popular poet of Kashmir attaining an iconic status.
