Jammu: Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has warned against cow vigilantism in the Jammu. She said tough action will be taken against forces trying to disrupt communal harmony in the Jammu region.

“Tough action will be taken against who carry out smuggling and also against those who take the law in their own hands,” said the CM at a function in the Jammu on Saturday. She said strict instructions have been issue to the police in this regard.

The CM though didn’t  specifically and categorically named the gau-rakshaks but was clearly hinting at them.

A nine-year old  and his four family members  of Bakerwal  nomadic tribe were attacked by a crowd in the Reasi district on April 20 . The crowd had accused the family of smuggling cows, though the police had later said they had the permission by the authorities to carry  livestock , which was also restored to them. The police had also arrested  11 people.

The CM said many attempts are being made  to foment trouble in the Jammu and disturb communal harmony .

“Jammu is like a second home to me. It has always strengthened communal harmony and have  extended help to the government ,”  she said.
