JAMMU, Sept 17: Reiterating Government’s determination to provide better basic amenities to the people of the State, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla today said that Government has taken several innovative measures to raise the living standard of the people, including those residing in peripheral areas of the urban centers.
The Minister was interacting with the people at public grievance redressal camp held at Gandhi Nagar, here today.
The Minister stressed upon the officers to redouble their efforts and accelerate pace on all ongoing works in their respective areas within stipulated time frame. He directed them to ensure use of quality material in execution of the works, adding that the objective of the Government was to create durable basic infrastructure across the State for providing better facilities to the people.
Mr Bhalla said that Government has spent crores of rupees to provide improved basic amenities to the people across the State, adding the execution of several ambitious projects under PHE, R&B, JMC and ERA are under progress on war-footing in every corner of the State. He said focused attention was being paid towards increasing power generation in the State, adding several macro, micro and mini power projects have been taken up for which besides State, the Centre is providing liberal financial assistance to the State Government.
Listing the developmental activities taken up in Gangyal, the Minister said Government has spent Rs. 3.5 crore improving the drinking water scenario in the locality including lying of water supply pipes in water deficit areas.
To ease the rush in GMC, Gandhi Nagar, SMGS Hospitals, Mr. Bhalla said Government has prepared a plan involving Rs. 48 crore for construction of 100-beded hospital on the available land near to Govt. Rajiv Gandhi Hospital.
For improving the drinking water facilities in his home constituency, Mr. Bhalla said Government has approved 19 new deep drill tube wells including Over Head Tanks in drinking water scarcity areas of Gandhi Nagar, adding that the projects would be started soon after completing tendering formalities.
Mr. Bhalla said that it is the prime duty of the Government to protect public and private properties, adding that for this purpose, Government has recently announced Rs. 87 crore for restoration of damages caused due to flash floods, besides to pay compensation to the flood and rain affected people. He said Government has prepared a comprehension plan to raise concrete protection bund from Sidhra to Raipur Satwari to protect the people’s property.
The Minister inquired about the damages due flash flood at different locations at Chandmari, Barazalla and Raipur Satwari and assured all required help from the civil administration.
